Carole Roussopoulos non c’è più.La malattia che la consumava l’ha sottratta alla sua famiglia e ai suoi amici, alle persone che hanno conosciuto i suoi video, alle tante lotte che ha sostenuto negli ultimi quarant’anni.
Amava restare “nascosta” dietro la videocamera, ma solo per inscrivere con più forza il suo desiderio di filmare.
La sua etica dello sguardo e dell’ascolto, della partecipazione e della passione civile restano vive in chi vuol conoscerle. Sempre assetata di nuove scoperte, seguiva con entusiasmo le passioni dei giovani, senza cedere a disfattismi e preconcetti. Il suo lavoro costruisce un anello fondamentale, capace di sfondare ogni barriera tra le persone, le discipline, le generazioni.
Carole guardava in volto la morte, con lucidità, risparmiando le energie per poterle meglio spendere tutte e fino all’ultima. Già malata, ha dedicato un documentario al cancro, filmando tre donne e la loro convivenza con la malattia.
Le abbiamo dedicato una retrospettiva qualche mese fa: abbiamo voluto imparare dal suo lavoro intenso e gioioso, dalla sua umiltà e consapevolezza, dalla sua curiosità e indipendenza.

Carole Roussopoulos is not with us anymore.
The disease that was consuming her has taken her away from her family and friends, from the people who loved her documentaries, from the many struggles she had fought in the last forty years.
She preferred to remain “hidden” behind her video camera, but only to underline with more intensity her desire to film. Her ethical choices in observing and listening, in participating and in her civil passion are still alive in those of us who want to know them. Always passionate for new discoveries, she would follow with enthusiasm the passions of young people, without giving up to defeatisms or preconceptions. Her work has built up a fundamental chain, capable of breaking off all barriers among people, disciplines and generations.
Carole had decided to face death with lucidity, saving her energies to better spend them all, in all possible ways, until the end. Already ill, she had dedicated a documentary to cancer, filming three women living and struggling with the disease.
To Carole we have dedicated a retrospective some months ago: and we have learnt greatly from her intense and joyful work, from her humbleness and awareness, from her curiosity and independence.
