La marcia femminista del 5 ottobre 1975 protesta contro l’esecuzione, qualche giorno prima, di cinque prigionieri baschi da parte del regime franchista.
Carole Roussopoulos filma la nascita di una manifestazione, dall’arrivo dei pullman alla preparazione degli striscioni, dei canti, degli opuscoli. Un gruppo di libertarie spagnole racconta con estrema lucidità politica quarant’anni di lotta, analizzando le delusioni, gli scontri, la propria situazione e le nuove speranze. Poi la marcia comincia: passiamo dai ritratti di gruppo alla coralità del movimento, al canto doloroso e intenso di una militante.
La lotta contro l’oppressione, lo sfruttamento e la repressione non separa femminismo, antifascismo e conflitti di classe: “la lotta contro il fascismo è anche la nostra lotta”. È così che il resoconto partecipato di una marcia fa esplodere le barriere e libera passioni inarginabili. E dopo aver filmato la marcia di Hendaye, “Carole e Io[anna]” passeranno la frontiera spagnola per raccogliere le parole delle madri dei condannati a morte (Les mères espagnoles).

Carole Roussopoulos films the setting up of the birth of a rally, from the arrival of coaches to the preparation of banners, songs, pamphlets. A group of Spanish libertarian women tell us with great political consciousness the story of their 40 years of struggles, going over all the disappointments, the clashes, their present condition and their new hopes. The rally begins: we go from group portraits to the many voices and faces of the movement, to the sad and intense singing of a woman.
The struggle against oppression, exploitation and repression does not separate feminism, anti-fascism and class struggle: “The battle against fascism is also our battle”. This is how the heartfelt report of a rally demolishes all barriers and sets free unstoppable passions. After filming the rally in Hendaye, “Carole and Io[anna]” will cross the Spanish border to collect the words of the mothers of those condemned to death (Les mères espagnoles).
