Incontro informale tra Kate Millet e alcune femministe (Monique Wittig, Christine Delphy), sul rapporto tra femminismo e prostituzione e a partire dal resoconto sulla prostituzione dell’intellettuale americana, appena tradotto in francese (e in italiano).
Sedute per terra, con un’aria di complicità e di quotidianità, le femministe parlano tra loro e per noi mentre la videocamera percorre affettuosamente i loro gesti.
Il tema è scottante: è possibile distinguere prostitute e prostituzione, difendere le prime e condannare la seconda? Tra convergenze e divisioni, le donne cercano una “sorellanza”; ma il video è ben più montato di quelli di Carole Roussopoulos, e dà l’impressione che molto sia rimasto fuori dalla forma finale: anche per questo, porta la traccia di una discussione difficile e ancora attuale.
An informal meeting of Kate Millet with some feminists (Monique Wittig, Christine Delphy) on the relation between feminism and prostitution, starting from the report on prostitution by the American intellectual that had just been translated into French (and into Italian).
Sitting on the floor, showing total complicity and familiarity, the feminists talk together and for us as the camera affectionately follows their gestures.
The theme is topical: is it possible to distinguish between prostitutes and prostitution, to defend the former and condemn the latter? Amid agreements and disagreements, the women try to create a “sisterhood”; but the film, compared to the works of Carole Roussopoulos, has been extensively edited and we get the feeling that a lot has been left out of the final version: also for this reason, it bears the traces of a hard and still open discussion.
