Al cuore di un Paese: Cecilia Mangini documentarista

Donna fiera, valente fotografa e versatile documentarista sin dai bigotti e maschilisti anni ’50, si afferma da subito per la sua visione appassionata sull’uomo e sulla storia: dirige oltre 40 cortometraggi e alcuni lungometraggi, questi ultimi in collaborazione con il compagno di vita e anch’egli grande cineasta Lino Del Fra.
Il suo cinema ha sempre sfidato il presente portando più in là di qualsiasi ideologia un discorso coerente e umanista sulla società e sulla cultura italiane: non è un caso che grandi poeti abbiano per lei scritto i testi di alcuni film: Pier Paolo Pasolini, Franco Fortini, Vasco Pratolini.
L’opportunità di mostrare una parte sostanziosa del suo corpus filmico permetterà di scoprire uno sguardo sempre attento e intelligente sul mondo, un’opera che ha documentato i cambiamenti radicali del nostro paese, il passaggio traumatico da una società provinciale e rurale ad una modernità spietata e omologante, ma anche la lenta presa d’atto del valore di lotte e conquiste sociali, le contraddizioni dei cambiamenti di costume e mentalità.

At the heart of a Country: Cecilia Mangini, documentarist

Cecilia Mangini is a unique phenomenon within the Italian cinema scene.
A proud woman with a libertarian soul, a talented photographer during the 50’s, years of religious hypocrisy and male-chauvinism, she becomes a well-known young documentarist right from the start also for her passionate outlook on man and history: she has directed more than 40 short films and some feature films, many of them in collaboration with life partner, and also talented film director, Lino Del Fra.
Her cinema-making has always defied the present, further enhancing, more than any ideology, a coherent and humanistic discourse on Italian society and culture; it is not by accident that great poets have written for her the texts of some of her films: Pier Paolo Pasolini, Franco Fortini, Vasco Pratolini.
The opportunity to show a substantial part of her film production will enable us to learn her vision of the world, always attentive and sharp. Her works have recorded the radical mutations of our country, the traumatic transition from a provincial and rural society to a ruthless and standardized modernity. Mangini has also documented a country slowly becoming aware of the value of social struggles and achievements, with all the contradictions of the changes in customs and mentality.
