La Bielorussia ha mostrato l’importanza dell’informazione indipendente.
Importanza ancora più grande in una società che non possiede ancora una tradizione democratica stabile, una società in cui, come mostra il film, la distanza tra la libertà e la mancanza di libertà è lunga quanto un’arma puntata.
Il documentario osserva diversi giornalisti bielorussi nelle loro scelte, l’importanza di essere onesti in un’epoca in cui le strutture sociali ed economiche stanno cambiando. Si tratta di scelte difficilissime tra la coscienza e la tentazione, tra la paura e la dignità.
Belarus has proved how important independent mass media are.
And they are far more important in a society that has no stable democratic traditions yet, in a society where, as the film shows, the distance between freedom and non-freedom is as short as the length of a stretched arm.
The film follows the activity of different Belarusian journalists and observe how they make their choices. We see the importance of being earnest in times when the social and economic structures are changing. This choice between conscience and temptation, between fear and dignity turns out to be extremely difficult.
